St. John’s Evangelical Church
At St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Honesdale, PA, we are a community of faith rooted in the love of Christ and dedicated to living out the Gospel in daily life. For generations, our church has been a place where people come together to worship, grow in faith, and serve others.
We welcome all who seek God’s grace, offering meaningful worship experiences, Bible study, youth and family ministries, and outreach programs that support our neighbors near and far. Our mission is to share the hope of Christ through word and action—caring for one another, strengthening faith, and extending God’s love into the wider community.
At St. John’s, you’ll find a place of belonging, whether you are just beginning your faith journey or have been walking with Christ for years. Together, we seek to know God more deeply, celebrate His presence, and joyfully serve in His name.
A brief History
In the 1840’s German immigrants came to Wayne County. The Wayne County Court granted worshipers a charter on May 16, 1846, for the “Johannes Evangelisches Lutheranisches Kirche”. The current building on the corners of Church and Seventh Streets was dedicated on October 4, 1904. In February of 1926 the congregation opted to have all morning services be conducted in English and voted to change the name of the church to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Handicap accessibility to the sanctuary was improved at St. John’s in 2008 with the installation of the lift. In 2010 three handicapped accessible bathrooms were installed in Fellowship Hall. St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church is an ELCA organization. All are welcome in this place!
